Whilst police are dashing around in their quest to find clues which could enable them to arrest the perpetrator who raped and murdered the 6-year old Zainab in Kasur, the deadline assigned by the Police chief of Punjab to take a suspect into custody already expired on Saturday at 8 pm.
The Intelligence bureau, Counter Terrorism Department, Punjab Forensic Science-Agency and Special Branch are involved in the case. However, a new video made its appearance showing the kidnapper present in the region from where Zainab disappeared. However, this video can obstruct recent attempts to zoom in on a suspect as the man in the video is different from the one shown in a previous video. There is also a time difference.
According to the CCTV footage the time was 17:27 whilst it is accepted that the girl was kidnapped at about 19:00. Despite the physical difference between the two suspects in the respective videos, the spot where this new perpetrator is shown is far from Zanaib’s home. More than 120 samples of DNA were tested, but thus far no match was found of what seems to be a serial killer, as there were previous cases of both rape & murder of children residing in Kasur. The police stated that 5,000 suspects were interrogated, whilst 67 tissue samples of DNA testing were done. However, no matches were found to profiles of perpetrators in 11 similar cases.
Muhammad Idrees, Multan’s regional police officer, in charge of a joint investigation team, briefed the police chief of Punjab in Lahore during a session also attended by Kasur DPO, Zahid Nawaz Murawwat, Zulfiqar Hameed – Sheikhupura RPO and more members associated with the JIT. The IGP was informed regarding all actions undertaken by die police in finding the assaulters, whilst the arrest of some suspects, DNA report, CCTV-footage of a suspect and circumstantial evidence was discussed. Arif Nawaz Khan, the Punjab’s IGP stated that all suspects’ DNA must be tested.
