He was born in New York City’s Brooklyn as Edward Regan Murphy. Eddie is observed as one of the highest earning artists in the movie industry, whilst also highly versatile, influential and one of the most talented. His main influences whilst a teenager was Bill Crosby, Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx. Murphy began his career as a comedian. Eddie was an inspiration to other great African-American actors and comedians like Martin Lawrence, Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx and Dave Chappelle. At 15, Eddie began performing in talent shows at school, comedy clubs and youth centres. At 18, he was a professional artist in comedy clubs and dive bars in New York.
