A warning was issued by the Chinese Embassy that Ambassador Sun Weidong is in danger. The embassy shared information with the Pakistani Government in a letter about a terrorist who slipped into Pakistan, posing to be a danger to Weidong. The terrorist is allegedly linked to a militant group, the East-Turkestan Islamic Movement.

Islamabad was requested by the embassy for increasing the security measures arranged for Chinese individuals and companies within Pakistan. They also requested the relevant ministry to take the alleged terrorist into custody and present him to China. According to security officials, militants are attempting to distort the Chinese development of the economic corridor throughout Pakistan. Over 50 employees were killed since 2014. China was ensured by Pakistan that they can supply the necessary security for the planned projects which is worth $57 billion.
