Seven people lost life, while 23 of them were injured in an explosion in the center of the Pakistani city of Quetta, police and health officials said.
Senior police officer Abdul Razak Hema explained that the target of the attack was a police truck and believed that the suicide bomber approached the truck and activated an explosive. Dr. Vasim Baig said that the bodies of five police officers and two civilians were transported to a local civilian hospital along with the injured. Baig added that the number of dead could have risen, given that several injuries are in critical condition.
The attack in the province’s provincial assembly building, as well as other government offices, occurred several hours after the province’s provincial minister Sanaulah Zehri resigned, although there was no indication that the explosion was linked to provincial politics.
